Christ King Statue Tour by Tuk Tuk
Ride out to the Garajau cliffs and stand beneath the Cristo Rei — the first Christ King statue in the world. On the way: a waterfall stop, the Pináculo viewpoint and the emblematic views over the Garajau cable car, which you can ride for just 5€ if you fancy it. Pickup at your hotel or the cruise terminal, 1h30min, 80€ per Tuk Tuk — and the drop-off can be changed to the Botanical Garden if you wish.
Garajau, seen properly
Cliffs dropping into the Atlantic, a cable car gliding down to the Garajau beach and the Cristo Rei watching over it all. The Tuk Tuk is open on both sides, so every stop is a photo you actually keep.
What you see on the Christ King tour
East of Funchal the road climbs onto the Garajau headland, where the cliffs fall straight into a marine reserve and the views open all the way back across the bay. In a Tuk Tuk it is one easy, continuous ride — and your driver knows which corner to stop at for the photo.
The route leaves Funchal along the coast, pauses at a waterfall on the way, and stops at viewpoints such as the Pináculo, perched on the edge of the most emblematic views over the Garajau cable car as it glides down the cliff face to the beach. Then it is on to the Garajau cliffs and the Cristo Rei — the Christ King statue inaugurated in 1927, the first monument of its kind in the world, years before Rio or Lisbon. And if you would like to keep the afternoon going, the drop-off can be changed to the Botanical Garden — just say the word.
1h30min — 80€ per Tuk Tuk
The price is per Tuk Tuk, not per person, and one Tuk Tuk carries up to 3 passengers. In 1h30min everything fits comfortably: the waterfall stop, the Pináculo viewpoint, the Garajau cliffs and proper time at the Cristo Rei statue.
How the tour runs
A private tour with a simple shape: we come to you, we drive the coast road to Garajau, we stop wherever the view earns it, and we drop you wherever suits you next.
Coming in on a cruise ship?
Garajau is a short ride from Funchal's cruise terminal, which makes the Christ King tour an easy fit for a port stop: 1h30min door to door, with the waterfall, the Pináculo viewpoint and the statue, and still plenty of margin before departure.
Tell us your ship's departure time in the booking notes or on WhatsApp and we will build the route to finish well before it, with drop-off directly at the terminal gate. Because the tour is private, there is no waiting for a group to fill up and no shared schedule to keep.

Is the Cristo Rei in Madeira really the first in the world?
Yes. The Christ King statue at Garajau was inaugurated in 1927, years before the famous statues in Rio de Janeiro and Lisbon — making it the first monument of its kind in the world.
Can the tour finish at the Botanical Garden?

Can we ride the Garajau cable car during the tour?
Yes. The cable car at Garajau is optional and costs 5€ per person. Just tell your driver and we will make time for the ride down the cliff to the Garajau beach.

Yes, pickup in the Funchal area is included. You choose the exact point on the map during checkout, whether that is a hotel entrance, an apartment address or the cruise terminal.
Is it suitable for children and older guests?
Yes. The Tuk Tuk is easy to step into, there is very little walking involved, and the driver stops wherever you need. Tell us in advance if you are travelling with small children so we can prepare.
