Your Tuk Tuk route to Monte begins with a ride through the Zona Velha — the oldest and most charming corner of Funchal, where art, history and island tradition live side by side in streets that have barely changed in five centuries. All of it is part of your Monte Toboggan tour.
You will glide along narrow roads paved with dark volcanic stone, laid by hand generations ago, and discover the celebrated Art of Open Doors — dozens of doorways along Rua de Santa Maria transformed by local artists into a unique open-air gallery. You will pass the traditional Fado restaurants, where Portugal's most soulful music fills the evening air, and hear the story of Madeira's deep bond with the ocean — from the fishermen who founded this quarter to the legendary black scabbardfish and fresh tuna that still arrive daily at the famous Mercado dos Lavradores (Farmers' Market). Is the sled ticket included?
No. The Tuk Tuk price is for the private tour and transport to Monte. The wicker basket sled is paid separately to the Carreiros at the top.
Does the tour work for cruise ship guests?
Yes. It is a short and practical option for cruise guests visiting Funchal. Choose a time that leaves enough margin before your ship departure.
Where does the Toboggan ride end?
The sled ride finishes in Livramento. After that, you can walk, take a taxi or ask us in advance if return transfer is available.
Are the Toboggans open every day?
They normally do not operate on Sundays and can be affected by weather, holidays or operator decisions. We recommend booking earlier in the day when possible.
How many people fit in one Tuk Tuk?
One Tuk Tuk is best for up to 3 passengers. For 4–6 passengers, contact us and we can check availability for a second Tuk Tuk.
